April 2019, 24-hour Emergency Response – Asphalt Spill in CT
When a tanker ruptured spilling thousands of gallons of liquid asphalt onto a busy road in Southbury, CT, Tradebe responded immediately to the scene.
The tanker was carrying approximately 5,800 gallons of material when it ruptured, sending the hot, (heated to approximately 300 degrees F.), tar down the northbound lanes of North Main Street in Southbury, CT near Interstate-84.
Tradebe’s Field Services Emergency Response team, along with the CT DEEP emergency responders, worked quickly to protect the environment and safely remove the asphalt.
A spokesperson for the CT DEEP was quoted by a local news station as saying, “the flammable material leaked out at a rate of 30 gallons per minute and spilled out toward storm drains…it was caught just in time, before it did any real damage to the environment.” With the Housatonic River located within close proximity – protecting the environment as quickly and safely as possible was the priority for all.
